Introduction

At the point of initiating this research in September 2020, movement of people between the UK and EU was one of the biggest questions our sector needed answers on, which was reflected in the conversations with the interviewed companies. The following section answers the most frequently asked questions.

1. I am a UK citizen resident in the UK, what do I need to work in the EU?

Below, are the main requirements you need to be aware of when travelling to the EU from 1st January 2021 (this section applies both for leisure and work trips). (source)

1.1 Passport

On the day you travel, you will need your passport to both:

• have at least 6 months left
• be less than 10 years old (even if it has 6 months or more left)

If you do not renew your passport, you will not be able to travel to most EU countries, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

These rules do not apply to travel to Ireland. You can continue to use your passport as long as it is valid for the length of your stay.
